Before the Great Calamity, Hyrule knew a great time of peace. Kara was born late in this era. Her mother and father adored their child and happily raised her close to Kakariko. Once Kara grew to a toddler, her father, Zigin, and his squad were called to an important set of quests. Meanwhile, her mother, Umie, and Kara moved into the heart of Kakariko. Umie held valuable knowledge of shrines and shrine maiden history that needed to remain protected. The family had a tearful parting at the end of that year. Zigin promised to send letters, and return the next year. The three remained hopeful to be reunited in the next year, unknowing of the devastation looming in Hyrule’s future.

It struck not too long after Umie and Kara settled. They were able to be tucked away in safety as the Calamity raged in Hyrule. Both feared the worst for Zigin though. Her father’s journey took him straight through the destruction. It would be hard to tell how far he and his companions made it before all hell broke loose. The loss hit Umie hard, however her community rallied behind her. Fellow shrine maidens assisted her in raising Kara as she recovered. Soon, Kara felt as though she had several older sisters. And with this help, Umie got back on her feet. Slowly she and Kara began to heal from what the Great Calamity took from them.

At 15, Kara decided to take the trial for shrine maiden. She wanted to uphold her mother’s legacy, and honor her father, who remained missing. Performing well, Kara began her training. In the first years, she discovered her overwhelming abundance of magical power, taking the form of water. Because of this, her weapon training became specialized. A wand became her conduit and gave her precise control over her water abilities. Kara found herself nervous leaving Kakariko for the big trip. She hadn’t left the village since the destruction numerous years before. Despite her reservations, her sisters cheered her on, knowing an unforgettable adventure awaited her.

Kara’s eyes were opened to the vastness and diversity of Hyrule during her trip. Her hesitation soon dissipated and she enjoyed all the new experiences in her third year of training. During this time, she discovered a love for horses while at the many stables. Thus, her apprenticeship took place at the East Akkala stable. While caring for horses, she also became a fast and reliable rider. Kara carried information and supplies as far south as the Foothill Stable. She made a name for herself as likely to inherit a command spot at the East Akkala Stable.

In the final months of her fourth year, a shrine maiden came urgently with enormous information for Kara; Her father was alive. Having been granted an early dismissal from her apprenticeship, the maiden transferred her back to Kakariko. In disbelief, she arrived in Kakariko that night. Despite having lost an eye and a leg, Zigin had survived that detrimental day. The circumstances made it a long journey, but the family finally reunited. This made Kara’s graduation all the more special. Umie tattooed her daughter and both her and Zigian witnessed their daughter receive her shine maiden title.
